SIAL Paris returns October 19–23, 2024 for its 60th anniversary edition — some 7,500 exhibitors from 130 countries, with China alone occupying more than 6,000 square meters of floor space. But the headline for ingredient exporters is not the scale; it is the theme. “Own the Change” frames the show around AI and deep tech, supply-chain reinvention, Africa’s rise and corporate social responsibility. For frozen and dehydrated produce suppliers, the theme reads less like decoration and more like a preview of what buyers will be asking about in the aisles.
Supply chains move to center stage
Putting supply chains alongside AI as a headline theme tells suppliers exactly where buyer attention has shifted. After three years of freight shocks, crop volatility and regulatory tightening, procurement teams arrive at SIAL with resilience checklists: dual sourcing, traceability documentation, contingency capacity. A frozen-vegetable or dehydrated-ingredient exhibitor who can speak concretely about origin diversification and logistics backup plans will hold meetings that a price-list-only competitor will not.
CSR is becoming a qualifying criterion
The theme’s CSR pillar reflects a structural change in European buying. Sustainability due diligence, packaging commitments and labor standards are migrating from marketing talking points to tender requirements — and the 60th-anniversary SIAL is where many buyers will formalize what they expect. Suppliers arriving with certifications, emissions data and packaging roadmaps in hand will find conversations that start at a different level.
Packaging deserves special attention from produce exporters. With the EU’s packaging regulation moving toward binding reduction targets, buyers are actively scouting suppliers who can offer recyclable films, reduced-plastic formats and bulk options without compromising frozen-chain integrity. A supplier who walks into SIAL with packaging answers — not just product samples — will match the theme of the show and the direction of regulation at once.
How to work the show
For ingredient exporters, SIAL’s anniversary edition rewards preparation over presence. Study the “Own the Change” program tracks and align samples and talking points with them: a dehydrated onion supplier with a plastic-reduction packaging story, or a frozen producer with field-to-container traceability documentation, fits the show’s narrative and the buyers it attracts. With 7,500 exhibitors competing for attention, the suppliers who get remembered will be the ones whose booth answered the questions buyers came to ask.
